Short Thoughts about Berlin Wall

Today November 9, 2009 marks the 20th anniversary since the Berlin Wall came down and with it the end of communism in Europe. For Germany indeed was a time in which repression, hostility and shoot - to kill orders were finally over, giving way to a more peaceful and hopeful yet unequal landscape in terms of economic development in both East and West Germany.

Although torn down, The Berlin Wall is still alive not only in the memories of those who suffer the inclemency of such act, but also in the mind of those arrogant governments in western hemisphere like Venezuela, that in the name of communism are repeatedly building up other Berlin walls of ideas of division, turmoil and even war.

It seems that history is repeating and modern politics and “regimes” are condemned to make the same mistakes unless taking into consideration history. Amid the outbreak of war in Latin America, the need to know what we did wrong in the past to not repeat absurd divisions and barriers is urgent. For now and from Colombia, Happy Berlin wall Anniversary for our German brothers.
